An original military medal established on the 24th of January 1938. It was awarded to commanders of the RKKA for 20 years of continuous service, and to those who had been decorated with the Order of the Red Banner during the Russian Civil War. A rare medal, only about 37,500 were issued.

Медаль вручалась командирам Рабочей и Крестьянской Красной Армии и Военно-морского флота (РККА) за 20 лет непрерывной службы, а также тем, кто был награжден орденом Красного Знамени во время Гражданской войны. Редкая медаль, было выпущена только около 37 500 штук.
