Extremely rare Turkish cigarette case with gilt and niello finish given to Hans-Joachim Buddecke. Hans-Joachim Buddecke (22 August 1890 – 10 March 1918) was a German flying ace in World War I, credited with thirteen victories. He was the third ace, after Max Immelmann and Oswald Boelcke, to earn the Blue Max (Pour le Mérite). He saw combat in three theaters during the First World War: Bulgaria, Turkey, and the Western Front. The case features a silver monogram composed of three letters HJB and gilt Turkish crescent with star on the lid and the cipher of Suleiman the Magnificent on the back.The case bears Turkish silver hallmarks and features gilt interior. It is a rare find. Total silver weight: 5.7 oz., (162 g.)
