German Imperial Submarine Badge in gold by with presentation inscription to Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière. The badge bears dedication engraving "Meinem Tapfersten Unterseeboot Kommandanten Kptlt. L. von Arnauld de la Periere" (My bravest submarine commander Kptlt. L. von Arnauld de la Periere) with signature dated 1918, it is also stamped with "750" gold hallmark on the reverse. Complete with original leatherette case, with moonstone button, lined with velvet, and stamped on the back with manufacturers logo "S MARENA". Vizeadmiral Lothar von Arnauld de la Perière (3/18/1886 – /24/1941) born in Posen (now Poznań, Poland) and of French-German descent, was a German U-boat commander during World War I. He sunk 194 ships and is the most successful submarine captain ever. De la Perière remained in the German Navy (Reichsmarine) after the war ended. During WWII, he was recalled to active duty as a rear admiral, and was killed in a plane crash near Paris in 1941 while taking part in secret negotiations with the Vichy French government.
