The Order of St George was originally created by Czarina Catherine the Great in 1769. It was the most respected military order of Imperial Russia. The Orange and Black ribbon associated with it was widely revered. As a result the Soviets incorporated the Orange and Black ribbon into many of their images. Today this respected award has been reinstated by the Russian Federation. An original Imperial Russian St. George knot, ca. 1900.
