A lithograph on paper depicting Don’s Horse-artillery Life Guards battery. St. Petersburg, edition of the Russian Military Chronicle. Drawn on the stone by Giller, lithographed by V. Darleng. Adolf Gebens (1819-1888) – portrait master and genre painter. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts, then in 1839-1840 in Paris with P. Delaroche. In 1841 he went to Italy, from where he returned in 1842 to Germany, to Danzig. In St. Petersburg he served as a court portrait painter, and wrote genre scenes, mainly of military subjects.
