An Imperial Russian silver medal "For Zeal" with its original ribbon issued for participation in a rescue operation and awarded to the member of the crew of the British Battleship deployed as rescue icebreaker near Archangelsk in 1915 by the British in the Russian Arctic during WW1. Issued to J. Power. "On 5 February 1915 HMS Jupiter was detached from guard duty to serve temporarily as an icebreaker at Archangel, Russia, while the regular icebreaker was undergoing a refit. HMS Jupiter was the first ship ever to get through the ice into Arkhangelsk during the winter, her arrival in February being the earliest recorded. Tsar Nicholas II authorized the issue of medals commemorating this feat to all officers and seamen serving on the ship. Royal Navy medals were officially impressed and permission to wear authorized by King George V." S.S. 100162. J. POWER. STO. 1CL. H.M.S. JUPITER.
