Signed "A. Hanzen" lower right and "Planina Skrylak" (Shale mountain) in Cyrillic lower left. Alexei Vasilievich Hanzen (1876-1937) – painter and graphic artist, known primarily for his landscapes and sea views. He was a grandson of Ivan Aivazovsky and began artistic training in his workshop. The paintings of Alexei Hanzen are presented in many museum and private collections, but most of his works are in the Feodosia Art Gallery named after I.K. Aivazovsky.
