A Russian Imperial order of Saint Anne in gold, III Class, with red enamel. The center is a medallion depicting a hand-painted miniature of St. Anne, the reverse depicts blue hand-painted initials on white enamel, the loop is hallmarked with "56" for 14k gold. The order is complete with an original case with a gold embossed double-headed eagle on the lid. The Imperial Order of St. Anne was instituted in 1735 as a dynastic award of the Duchy of Holstein-Gottorp and introduced on April 5, 1797, by the decree of Emperor Paul I in the award system of the Russian Empire to distinguish clergymen, military, civil and court ranks, as well as foreigners.
