Andrey Grositsky (Russian, 1934 – 2017), oil on hardboard panel painting "Baton, " 1967. Signed in the Cyrillic, titled and dated on the back. This is a rare early work, the bread was the artist’s favorite theme. In this work, the artist depicted the bread loaf (baton) as if it is trying to leave the painting. It is a very unusual technique for the artist.

Andrey Grositsky was a Moscow nonconformist artist. His style and position were formed in the 1960s in the circle of Moscow underground artists such as Ilya Kabakov, Eric Bulatov, Ivan Chuikov, Boris Turetsky, Yuri Zlotnikov.
