AUCTION 35: DECEMBER 2022 DECORATIVE AND FINE ART SALE
Willard Leroy Metcalf (American, 1858 – 1925), Impressionistic oil on canvas painting depicting a house on a rocky cliff above the sea. Signed by the artist lower left. Willard Leroy Metcalf was a well-known East Coast Impressionist painter, teacher, and illustrator who also the painting in the Southwest. He was heralded in 1925 as the "poet laureate of the New England hills."

Dimensions: 26 1/2 x 21 1/4 in., (65 x 21.5 cm.)
Condition: Good overall. The painting was examined under black light. It revealed a couple of touch-ups. There is a paint flake on the rocky outcrop on the right of the house.
