Claude Marie Dubufe (1790 – 1864), oil on canvas painting depicting a charming young lady in bed under a red canopy. Housed in a giltwood and gesso frame. Inscribed verso.Note: Claude Marie Dubufe was a French portrait painter. At first he painted historical paintings in the academic manner of his teacher, Jacques-Louis David, later in the sentimental-bourgeois spirit that dominated French painting in the 1820s and early 1830s. At one time he enjoyed considerable fame and created many portraits, including the rulers and aristocracy of France: King Louis Philippe I, Belgian Queen Louise Marie d’Orleans, Comte de Chambord, Anne-Pierre Montesquieu-Fezansac and others.

Condition: Very good with a nice craquelure.
