Wilhelm Friedrich Giessel (Austrian, 1869-1938), oil on canvas genre painting depicting a man with a bird in a cage. Signed by the artist lower left. Housed in a richly decorated giltwood and gesso frame. Note: Wilhelm Giessel was an Austrian genre painter influenced by the Munich painter Eduard von Grutzner, known for his historic tavern scenes. Giessel was active in Vienna.
Dimensions: 19 x 12 1/2 in., (48.2 x 31.5 cm.)
Condition: Canvas has some damage.
