Mounted on a base "Return from the hunt" the bronze composition depicts a Russian Cossack returning from a hunt with two dogs. Modeled by V. Y. Grachev (1831-1905), one of the best masters of small plastics of the 19th century. The main theme of the works is genre scenes depicting people, horses, historical and military episodes. Grachev’s works are characterized by vitality, realistic interpretation of the plot, careful study of details, and textured surfaces, as well as a masterful transmission of movement dynamics and expressive study of details, especially small ones. Bronze, casting, patina. Stamped with the artist’s and foundry marks, dated. Ca. 1877, Saint-Petersburg.
