Georges Anatolievich Pogedaieff (Russian, French, 1899-1971), one of the series of 12 artworks, charcoal, and crayon on paper illustration for Nikolai Gogol’s "Dead Souls" depicting Chichikov with Manilov and Korobochka. Signed lower left: "Georges A. de Pogedaieff."
Executed in Germany-occupied Paris in the 1940s.
