Watercolor on paper painting depicting Franco-Prussian officer feeding his horse by Jean-Baptiste-Edouard Detaille (French, 1848-1912). Matted and framed. Inscribed on the back: Edward Detaille, 1876; Franco-Prussian War of 1870, July 19, 1870 – May 10, 1871. Jean-Baptiste Edouard Detaille was a French academic painter and military artist noted for his precision and realistic detail. He was regarded as the "semi-official artist of the French army."
