AUCTION # 33 ANTIQUE ARMS, ARMOR & DECORATIONS
A magnificent silver-mounted and gilded dagger, Dagestan, late 19th century. The dagger is decorated with a very fine engraving. The silversmith jeweler who performed this work was a virtuoso in his field. A Caucasian edge weapon of this level of technique is very rare. On the back side of the scabbard, there are engraved Arabic letters: Sahib (the owner’s name) Ismail Hasan. The blade is marked with the maker’s name "Bazalai Ali" from the famous Bazalai Dynasty from Dagestan, the blade also has the date 313 (1313) Hijri – 1895. This dagger came from a sophisticated private collection in Europe.
