Orthodox icon of the Mother of God of Kazan dated from the late 18th to the early 19th century. Egg tempera on wood, housed in the finely hand-chased and engraved silver riza or oklad and in the wood and glass icon case. The Mother of God has depicted with her head bowed to the Child. The Christ Child is shown from the front, the right hand is extended in a blessing gesture with two fingers. Hallmarks: 72 proof, two Greek initials for the maker.
Dimensions: 13 x 10 3/4 in., (33 x 27 cm.)
Condition: Very good.
